‘Change and Adapt’ – Science Week Special

Pupil poster about 'Adapt and Change'

Woodlands enjoyed a wonderful week of science from 10th March to 17th March, from making bath bombs to animal monitoring tunnels. The science week theme this year is ‘Change and Adapt’ which gave us an opportunity to share skills and observe how things can change and adapt in the world. Each pupil got involved and thoroughly enjoyed the activities that were offered. Key Stage 4 pupils made wormery’s and investigated the ever-problematic issue of wet wipes, do they really clog up the toilet? Is it that important that we use the correct paper to flush it away?

Each class was given two plant pots with 6 tomato seeds to plant at the same time on the first day of Science Week to grow their own tomatoes and hopefully taste them before we break up for Summer.

Key Stage 3 used these activities within non science subjects such as PSHE and came up with some amazing work, this is an example…

Thatcher Class took part in the bath bomb making activity which incorporates Maths. To further integrate additional lessons, pupils worked on turning their bath bombs into an enterprise project. During English, Thatcher Class worked on making an advert for their bath bomb. They made logos, names for their product, slogans and prices too.

All pupils were given the opportunity during tutor time to make a poster about Change and Adaptions in life or the world. There were some brilliant hand drawn pictures posters. Each year group judged other year groups to gain a winner for each year and one overall winner for Key Stage 3 and one for Key Stage 4.

Well done to all our pupils, what a busy, fun week!
