DOWN ON THE FARM
Pupils studying a Land-Based Studies Course at Woodlands Academy had the opportunity recently to take part in a Deer Safari and farm visit at Stourton Estates in Baumber.
As part of the tour, pupils were taken around the estate by tractor and trailer, which enabled them to get up close to the woodlands, deer and arable land.
The estate owner spent two hours talking to staff and pupils, giving an informative talk about how the farm works and its future.
This gave the pupils a great insight to the different sectors of arable and livestock farming, fire wood production and the management carried out to maintain a large countryside estate.
“I liked getting up close to the stags.”
“It was really interesting seeing different parts of the farm, especially the deer and how they manage their woodlands.”
