Pupils meet Georgia’s Euro 2024 Assistant Manager
Pupils across Woodlands Academy were thrilled to have the opportunity to virtually meet Georgia’s Assistant Manager, David Webb, following Euro 2024 where the competition underdogs defeated a Portugal side that boasted the likes of superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva.
Joined by the whole school, David Webb was asked a variety of questions across a 40-minute session by fully immersed pupils. He explained how he ‘enjoys working with different people and learns every day’, a key message for the pupils both within and beyond education.
The former York City manager talked through his journey across football, working his way up from evening academy sessions with Tottenham Hotspur to becoming a household name on the back of a historical tournament for Georgia, identifying the importance of working hard to reach your goals. He was also honest about how difficult it is to become a professional footballer, the dedication and hard work you have to put in, along with explaining why you need to have a back-up plan.
After discussing his favourite goals and a career highlight of meeting Cristiano Ronaldo, Woodlands’ visitor was quizzed on what he does to support his mental health outside of football and David was keen to identify the importance of sleep and rest.
The pupils really enjoyed the session with Year 11s Regan and Alfie explaining how they were ‘amazed he [David Webb] had met Cristiano Ronaldo and worked at the top level’.
They added, ‘he was really nice and had an understanding of us all’.
