Year 10 Engineering Trip
The end of term brought about a well-deserved trip for our Year 10’s. Engineering is a growing industry and at Woodlands Academy we are showing our pupils what a great and versatile industry it is to be involved in. With the support of The Lindum Group, we were able to organise an event for our pupils to try the experience of working in a real engineering environment.
Our pupils were shown a small example of work that Lindum’s young staff experience daily. Six pupils worked alongside Matthew, a technician who worked in all areas of the workshop. Matthew has gained his Level 2 in light vehicles and plant prior to working at Lindum. The Lindum Group has given him the opportunity to work all types of vehicles which he says makes the job exciting and different every day.
Pupils worked with a newly qualified Level 2 HGV technician, George. George had experienced working in different workshops before joining Lindum. Lindum gave George the opportunity to complete his qualification. George told the pupils that they were very supportive in his development and education, and they encourage him to want to improve his skills.
Lindum Group have been trading for 68 years in Lincoln and have grown to be one of the ‘Times 100 Best’ companies to work for. Our hope is that we have inspired our pupils to join the engineering industry after their time at Woodlands Academy.
All the pupils enjoyed the day at Lindum from working on a trailer, a light service check of a fleet vehicle, servicing a fan and pump for a fire and then having the opportunity to see a fire engine in operation.
We would like to thank Lindum Group Lincoln for this amazing opportunity and look forward to working with them further in the future.
